Appendix C: DPTAC membership, as of 1st January 2000
Chair
Jane Wilmot OBE
Jane is the first woman to chair DPTAC and the first Chair with a sensory
impairment - she is deaf. As Chair of DPTAC she is also an ex-officio
member of the Commission for Integrated Transport.
Jane is the Vice-Chair of the Royal National Institute for Deaf People,
a Vice President of Disability Alliance, a member of Hammersmith and
Fulham Community Health Council and the Tourism for All Consortium.
Jane is also a Trustee of the City Parochial Foundation, the Hammersmith
and Fulham Action for Disability, and Tripscope.
Members
Jean Ashcroft MBE
Jean has a mobility impairment which sometimes requires the use of
a wheelchair. She has been a DPTAC member since 1992. Jean is a Public
Policy Consultant for Arthritis Care (formerly Director of Public Policy
and Campaigning). She is also a member of the Advisory Committee on
Telecommunications for Elderly and Disabled People (DIEL) and a Trustee
of The Forum of Mobility Centres.
Peter Barker OBE
Peter is blind, and has been a DPTAC member since 1995.
Peter is the Manager of the JMU Access Partnership (Joint Mobility
Unit of the RNIB/Guide Dogs for the Blind Association), a member of
the Pedestrian Policy Group, the Access Advisory Panel of the Royal
Opera House, and the Access Advisory Panel of the New Millennium Experience
Company. Peter is also the trustee Director of Tripscope, the National
Information Forum, and is a founder member of the National Register
of Access Consultants.
Ed Bassford
Ed has been a DPTAC member since 1999. Ed is the Group Manager (Passenger
Transport) at East Sussex County Council.
Jean Dunlop
Jean is a wheelchair user, and has been a DPTAC member since 1997.
Jean was formerly Chair of the Strathclyde Forum on Disability.
Peter Field MBE
Peter is a wheelchair user, and has been a DPTAC member since 1999.
Peter is Treasurer of the Countryside Access Group of the Disabled Drivers
Association, a trustee to The National Federation of Shopmobility, and
to RADAR. He is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of FAST (Foundation
for the Advancement of Assistive Technology).
Rubina Hassanali
Rubina has a visual and a mobility impairment. She has been a DPTAC
member since 1999. Rubina works for Westminster City Council and has
a great deal of experience of transport and access issues.
Joe Hennessy OBE
Joe is a wheelchair user. He had previously sat as a DPTAC member between
1985 -1995, and was re-appointed in 1999.
Joe is a Governor of Motability, the National Vice-Chairman of the
Disabled Drivers' Association, Chairman of the Joint Committee on Mobility
for Disabled People, Vice-Chairman of emPower, and a member of Tripscope
(the national travel information service for disabled people).
Tony Kennan
Tony has been a DPTAC member since 1993, and has wide experience in
the bus industry. Tony is a trustee of the MS Society, and also a member
of Tripscope.
Cllr Janet Kirk
Janet has a mobility impairment, and has been a DPTAC member since
1999. She is a Parish Councillor, and within the union of MSF (Manufacturing,
Science and Finance) is Chair of the Regions Disability Employment Advisory
Committee, and Vice-Chair of the MSF National Disability Employment
Advisory Committee. Janet is also the co-Chair of the Labour Party's
Disabled Members Group.
Valerie Lang MBE
Valerie has cerebral palsy, and has been a DPTAC member since 1995.
Valerie is an honorary life member of Scope, a trustee of Mobility Choice,
CARIS (Church Action and Response in Society) and HomeShare. She is
also a member of the Independent Review Body in the Disability Benefits
Directorate, and the Islington Deanery Synod.
Sir Peter Large CBE
Sir Peter is a wheelchair user, and a founder member of DPTAC. He was
appointed in 1986. He is a member, and currently President, of the Joint
Committee on Mobility for the Disabled, and Parliamentary Advisor of
the Association of Disabled Professionals; he was former Chair of both
these Groups.
Sir Peter is also a Governor of Motability, and a member of RADAR (the
Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation).
Grahame Lawson
Grahame has been a member of DPTAC since 1995.
Grahame is Head of Planning and Transportation for North Lanarkshire
Council, and a member of the Scottish Society of Directors of Planning,
Society of Chief Officers of Transportation in Scotland, and Chairman
of SCOTS Working Party on Flooding.
Peter Lee
Peter has been a DPTAC member since 1999. Peter is the Managing Director
of a bus and coach company based in north east England, is current Chairman
(Northern Region) of the CPT (Confederation of Passenger Transport),
as well as being on CPT's Council, Coach Commission and Section 1 (small
operators) committees, and Chairman of the National Express Contractors
Association.
Bert Massie CBE
Bert is a wheelchair user, and was appointed to DPTAC in 1986. Bert
is the Chairman of the DRC (Disability Rights Commission), Vice-Chairman
and trustee of Tripscope, and Deputy Vice-President (Europe) of Rehabilitation
International.
Jenny Meadows
Jenny has been a member of DPTAC since 1995.
Jenny is the Director of the Community Transport Association.
Dorothy Rhodes
Dorothy has a walking impairment, and sometimes requires the use of
a wheelchair. She has been a DPTAC member since 1992. She is the National
President of Pensioners' Voice.
Cath Simpson
Cath is visually impaired, and co-ordinates Social Work and Technical
Services for Glasgow City Council. Cath is also a member of the RNIB's
Executive Council and therefore a trustee of the RNIB.
Carol Thomas
Carol has been a DPTAC member since 1999. Carol is the Senior Access
Consultant of the JMU Access Partnership (Joint Mobility Unit of RNIB/Guide
Dogs for the Blind Association), and runs the Welsh office of the JMU
in Cardiff. Carol is a planner, a member of the Royal Town Planning
Institute, a member of The Access Association, the Access Committee
for Wales, and Disability Wales.
Nick Tyler
Nick has been a DPTAC member since 1999. Nick is the Senior Lecturer
in Transport at University College London, where he promotes an innovative
approach to research, design and the implementation of transport policies.
Richard West
Richard is deaf and is the first DPTAC member with a learning disability.
He has been a DPTAC member since 1999. Richard works for CHANGE, an
organisation for people with both a learning disability and a sensory
impairment, and is a member of the GLAD (Greater London Action on Disability)
Transport Group and People First Lambeth.
