Annual Report 1999

Appendix F: Work programme for 2000

DPTAC's statutory remit is to provide advice to Government on the transport needs of disabled people. To fulfil that remit, DPTAC has agreed a detailed work programme for 2000, most of which will be carried out at Working Group level. The work programme can be summarised by the following objectives1:

Objective 1: to advise Government on the overarching issues affecting the transport needs of disabled people (e.g., the Transport Bill, the 10 year transport plan, revisions to Transport and Planning Guidance e.g. PPG13 and compliance with DDA.)

Objective 2: to commission research into the availability of education and training on disability issues, and to make recommendations to Government for possible action in this area.

Objective 3: establish new built environment working group.

Objective 4: establish constructive working relationship with the devolved administrations, including the Greater London Authority, and with the Disability Rights Commission

Objective 5: to continue to monitor the impact of both Parts III and Part V of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

Objective 6: to advise on any possible legislation to implement the recommendations of the Disability Rights Task Force.

Objective 7: to raise standards of accessibility on transport not covered by the DDA (in particular ferries and air travel)

Objective 8: to promote awareness of developments in accessible transport (and thus raise the profile of the Committee) among Government, transport industries, and the general public, including disabled people.

1 Some of the objectives are ongoing, and are therefore similar to those for 1999.
